Nan McNutt is the author of a series of Northwest Coast Native American story and activity books for children (currently out of print).
Originally published in the 1980s and 1990s, this thoughtfully crafted book series has helped transform the fundamental approach to Native American education in both Native and mainstream classrooms.
The series is the culmination of Nan’s learning from and teaching with Native American people. Each book is representative of a different Native American group and introduces readers to the complex art forms, cultures and histories of the Northwest Coast Native Americans.
To write with authenticity, Nan partnered with Native American artists and storytellers who are held in high regard in their own communities. This collaborative effort brings aesthetically and culturally appropriate artwork and knowledge to each book, and in turn, to young learners.
